Is This Protection or Government Control of its Citizens?

Americans nowadays put way too much trust in the government. My question is why?  What has the government ever done to create so much trust of its citizens? There’s lots of evidence showing that the NSA is now spying on us as civilians. This is a continually talked about topic in our government, worldwide governments and in all media.  It seems most Americans think this is ok. Well it’s not ok for me.

You may say, “I’m doing nothing wrong, I don’t care that the NSA is spying on me or U.S. citizens since it’s for my protection.” Ok, then I’m sure you wouldn’t mind the government knowing your bank account information, investment banking activity, all your emails, all your text messages, medical records, credit card information and more.

One of our founding fathers Ben Franklin was quoted as saying, “Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.”  We also have an amendment in the Bill of Rights that protects us against the government infringing on our privacy. This is the 4th Amendment and it states, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” Instances like the Boston marathon bombing with declared martial law, the recent exposing of the NSA domestic spying by Edward Snowden and the creation of the TSA in 2001 all make it very clear that the government doesn’t respect our 4th Amendment rights.

Without our constitution, what separates us from a communist country? The answer is that nothing separates us from communism if the American people don’t want to stand behind the constitution. So if you still think it’s ok for our government to infringe on the 4th Amendment, then what makes you think you won’t be exploited by the government’s knowledge of you.  If the government knows everything about you they can control you – they can ultimately control all U.S. citizens. I recommend studying and reading up on history where the government became too large and controlling such as East Germany, The Soviet Union and Cuba. Safety is a double edged sword and I don’t want to end up living in a communist nation.
